The ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Mural Project is a public-art initiative of the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and that draws attention to . ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s groundbreaking science report "Survival By Degrees" found that climate change will threaten 389 birds species—at least half of all North American birds—with extinction, and that no bird will escape the impacts of climate-change-related hazards like increased wildfire and sea-level rise. ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ commissions artists to paint murals of these species throughout New York City, and partners have carried it to other communities. Many of the bird murals are concentrated in the Harlem and Washington Heights neighborhoods of northern Manhattan. On Washington's Vashon Island, the community has embraced a public art initiative to inspire conservation of local climate-threatened species.
Paintings of imperiled birds beautify buildings throughout the city, providing a catalyst for conversations about climate change.
Inspired by the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Mural Project, this summer students in an ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ campus chapter came together to paint dozens of climate-threatened birds—each in their very own frame.
