SACRAMENTO, Calif. (January 10, 2018) – Defenders of Wildlife, The Humane Society of the United States, �ԹϺ��� California, The Nature Conservancy, Environmental Defense Fund, Ocean Conservancy, Oceana, and the Mountain Lion Foundation – among many other nonprofit wildlife advocacy organizations – welcome Gov. Brown’s proposal to address the long-term structural imbalance between the Department of Fish and Wildlife’s mandated responsibilities. The Governor has also proposed making new funds available to improve California’s efforts to “diverse fish, wildlife and plant resources and the habitat on which they depend, for their ecological value and for their use and enjoyment by the public.”

Last year, Governor Brown’s budget highlighted the “importance of long-term sustainable funding in a state that has more biodiversity than any other.” Stakeholders worked throughout 2017 to elevate the urgency for additional revenues to adequately fund efforts to manage and protect California’s precious coast, lands, parks, and wildlife for the future.
