Nature Immersion Programs at Green Mountain ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Center

Our Nature Immersion Programs offer children opportunities to build deep, lasting relationships with the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Center, our staff, and each other.

These school-year programs help children develop a deep love of birds, other wildlife, and the places they need.  Recurring half-day (2- or 4-hour) and full-day (6-hour) programs at the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Center offer environmental education for children ages 3 to 12, in small groups with low student to staff ratio.  We create space for children to develop their innate bond with the natural world through play, exploration, and social and emotional learning.

We have built strong relationships with program participants and their families over 60 years and have helped children build a strong set of conservation values that stay with them for life.

Our Programs

A weekly drop off program that seeks to develop the innate bond between children and the natural world by providing a landscape to play, explore, and use all of our senses. Our teachers act as role models and guides: they share in the children’s curiosity, ask questions, inspire with stories, and embody empathy towards all living things.

Our full-day, school-aged program meets every Monday. This program is designed to provide students with supplemental outdoor learning to their homeschool or in-classroom education. We have the flexibility to work in age-appropriate small groups or come together as one class. This program will follow the model of our Forest Playschool, where children are given the opportunity to lead their days with inquiry and are supported by our Teacher-Naturalists with seasonal topics and nature mentoring. No two days look the same, but themes of cooperation, curiosity, and phenology will prevail throughout our sessions.

We integrate the outdoor classroom with rigorous academic concepts, conservation-based themes, and connection with nature. ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Vermont's series of monthly outdoor nature-based programs focus on key science concepts. Each program is designed to give you a platform from which to build units/lessons in your homeschooling or to supplement your child's classroom learning at school. Each season —fall, winter, and spring— offers hands-on learning opportunities families love. We build on learning each month to create a three-month series that is in tune with nature's calendar.

Afterschool programs are a great way to discover the outdoors, with less structure than traditional guided experiences. We are excited for the opportunity to work with Mr. G’s After School Adventure Program and the whole MMUU School District starting for the 2025-26 school year.
