ԹϺ Events Marking Earth Day 2022

While conservation and stewardship of the environment are top of mind every day across the ԹϺ network, Earth Day on April 22 is a special day to join the global community in celebrating the natural resources our world has to offer, and recommit ourselves to its protection. This year’s official Earth Day theme is , and ԹϺ programs at the national, state, and local levels are holding events around the country demonstrating all of the ways that we can invest our time, resources, and passion for birds and the environment into creating a better future for us all.

Here are some of the highlights from the ԹϺ community. Events will be added as needed:

Virtual events

  • 4/22/22: The Trust for Public Land will host a at 3:00 pm ET/12:00pm PT featuring a panel that includes actor Nick Offerman, founder of Melanin Basecamp and Diversify Outdoors Danielle Williams, and Tykee James from the ԹϺ and DC ԹϺ Society speaking about making sure people of all backgrounds and abilities can safely enjoy the outdoors. Registration required.
  • 4/22/22 ԹϺ HBCU Arts in Conservation Festival: ԹϺ On Campus presents student conservationists, leaders, and artists from six historically Black colleges and universities in virtual AND in-person events celebrating nature, community, and the arts. Registration for virtual events is required and is restricted to students and university faculty only. More information on this event and participating HBCUs can be found on our website. Events start at 4:45 pm ET and end at 9:00 pm ET.
  • 4/27/22: webinar. Join scientists from the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department, ԹϺ Vermont, The Nature Conservancy, and Vermont Center for Ecostudies, for a lunch hour webinar from 12:00-1:00 pm ET on Wednesday, April 27.. We’ll cover the ecology of the newly listed species, explain what “critical habitat” is and how it helps recover threatened or endangered species, and walk through some of the conservation steps we are taking—and how Vermonters can help.  

Greenwich, CT

  • 4/23/22: The Greenwich ԹϺ Center will host an from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There will be activity stations and live animal ambassadors. Admission is free, though registration is encouraged.

Sharon, CT

  • 4/22/22: The Sharon ԹϺ Center will host an . Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Fargo, ND

  • 4/24/22: ԹϺ Dakota will be participating with a booth at the . The celebration lasts all day from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Oyster Bay NY

  • 4/23/22: The Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and ԹϺ Center will hold from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Pre-orders available.

Savannah, NY

  • 4/22/22:  from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Details on tickets and location can be found at their website.

Syracuse, NY

  • 4/23/22: The will take place from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Harbor Brook. Pre-registration is required. More information can be found at the website.

Columbus, OH

  • 4/22/22: Celebrate Earth Day this year at Scioto ԹϺ Metro Park! Volunteering opportunities include tree planting, weeding the butterfly garden, and litter pickup by the river. Activities will from 5:00-7:30 pm, meeting at the Grange Insurance ԹϺ Center at 505 W. Whittier Street. Please bring your sunscreen, water, and a positive attitude! All other equipment will be provided. In case of bad weather, we ask volunteers to come the following day, Saturday, April 23, at 5:00.

ԹϺ, PA

  • 4/24/22: The will host an afternoon-long celebration featuring bird walks, kids’ activities, native plant workshops and canoeing. Events held between noon and 4:00 pm.

Philadelphia, PA

  • 4/23/22: The Discovery Center in Philadelphia will offer two Earth Day Birds Walks at and with local ornithologist Keith Russell
  • 4/24/22: ԹϺ staff at the Discovery Center will present three starting at 10:00 am

Cedar Hill, TX

  • 4/23/22: The Dogwood Canyon ԹϺ Center will host a from 7:30 am to 8:30 am. Please visit the event page for information on registration and tickets.

San Antonio, TX

  • 4/23/22: The Mitchell Lake ԹϺ Center is hosting a number of events, including a from 8:00am to 10:00 am, from 8:00am -12:30 pm, and a all day. Some events may require tickets and prior registration. Please see event pages for more details.
