After the Gulf oil spill, more than 34,000 people signed up to volunteer with the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. Meet nine of them.

 

They vary in age and background; they come from different places and have day-jobs as far ranging as pastor and schoolteacher. But they all have the same goal: To protect the wildlife and habitat put in harm’s way by the spill. (They’re also the focus of our November-December cover story, .)

 

During the next couple weeks, we’ll profile eight others, people who gave (and continue to give) their time—and lots of it—for nothing in return but the satisfaction of knowing they’ve helped.
