ԹϺ connects birds and conservation action at IUCN's World Conservation Congress.
As a long-time pillar of the conservation community, ԹϺ is rising to meet the urgency of this moment through the power of birds because what’s good for birds is good for people and the planet. Building upon decades of accomplishments and a strong scientific backbone, ԹϺ is focused on delivering tangible outcomes for birds and people at the scale of the challenges we face.
What's good for birds is good for the planet.
Migratory species, particularly birds, epitomize the challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change. ԹϺ addresses these challenges—which threaten wildlife, ecosystems and human populations—by focusing on birds because their collective health mirrors the health of our planet.
ԹϺ is sending a delegation to IUCN World Conservation Congress, a once-every-four-years gathering of nature conservation experts, leaders and decision-makers from around the world, hosted this year October 9-15 in Abu Dhabi.
Our delegates will host two presentations. “Soaring Seas: Seabirds and Emerging Opportunities for International Marine Conservation” features Project Puffin—a rare conservation success built over five decades of dedication that has successfully restored Atlantic Puffins and other seabirds to the Gulf of Maine, and is evolving to tackle new global challenges through science, policy, and collaboration.
“It Starts With Birds” builds on ԹϺ’s landmark Survival by Degrees report—which revealed how climate change threatens two-thirds of North American bird species—to introduce a forthcoming study that expands this research across Latin America, spotlighting vulnerable forest birds and the ecosystems they depend on, while underscoring how science-based tools like climate strongholds guide conservation priorities and help align biodiversity conservation with natural climate solutions.
The United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP, takes place every year. The next conference in Belém, Brazil in November 2025. ԹϺ has had a presence at several of the last COPs, and plans to send a delegation to this conference. More details to come!
The United Nations Biodiversity Conference of Parties, or COP16, takes place every two years. The 2024 conference in Cali, Colombia, put greater attention on nature and biodiversity within the larger environmental and climate movement in the buildup to COP30 in Brazil. About 200 countries attended and presented their national action plans for meeting the 30x30 conservation commitments made at the previous biodiversity conference in 2022. The ԹϺ and our partners took part in several events throughout the conference.
