With Halloween coming up, it was only fitting for the students to search for pumpkins as the hidden item of the day. The weather is getting much colder than previous weeks, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying our time outside. 

Both Wednesday’s class and Friday’s class enjoyed carving pumpkins (with the help of Emily and Truman). The students divided into groups and worked together to create their own unique designs. Some pumpkins resembled house pets while others resembled spooky bats. 

In addition to pumpkin carving, both classes decided to embark on a hike to our outdoor adventure; Wednesday’s group to Beaver Pond, and Friday’s group to Mossy Rock. Wednesday’s group enjoyed crafting mud sculptures and digging up interesting looking rocks. Friday’s group was more focused on climbing the boulder of Mossy Rock and breaking fallen tree branches. 

Stories about Autumn’s leaves were told during snack and lunch, giving the students some of their first lessons on the science behind why leaves change color and fall. The students learned about the word “chlorophyll” and how a decrease of it causes a leaf to turn red, orange, yellow or brown. 

We look forward to next week when the students will come to class dressed in their Halloween costumes.
