Bird and Bee Friendly Farms

Our Goals
Stabilize and reverse declining bird and pollinator populations in partnership with farmers and land managers.
What We’re Doing
Working with landowners to cultivate healthy, resilient, and biodiverse habitat for birds and pollinators.

Grassland birds, insect eating birds, and native pollinators are experiencing drastic population declines across Vermont. The habitats that they depend on for foraging and nesting are rapidly disappearing. Vermont’s agricultural landscape can play a key role in stabilizing and reversing these declines by providing a network of healthy and diverse grassland, shrubland, and riparian habitats. ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ works with farmers, landowners, and partners to bring nature-based solutions and bird-friendly practices to working lands.

We work to protect birds because we know that what's good for birds is good for people and the planet. Improving grasslands, shrublands, and riparian buffers can help store carbon, increase biodiversity, improve water quality and reduce climate risks like flooding and drought. Our bird-friendly recommendations aim to balance wildlife population and ecosystem health with farm productivity and long-term financial sustainability.

If you farm or manage working lands and are interested in adopting bird and bee-friendly practices, you may be eligible for an in-person assessment of your property. ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ staff will walk your land and provide you with personalized recommendations. We also help connect you with potential funding sources and technical assistance when completing this work.
